Samsung just launched its flagship smartphone for 2019: the Samsung Galaxy S10. It had been speculated for quite a while that this phone might carry a cryptocurrency wallet. Samsung had, for months, denied to make an official comment on it. However, now that the phone is out - it has been confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S10 will indeed feature a cryptocurrency wallet!
This feature is available on all three variants of Samsung’s latest smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S10, Samsung Galaxy S10+ and the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G. This feature has been named ‘Samsung Knox’. It offers secure cryptocurrency storage backed by the Samsung hardware. In essence, it is basically a hardware cryptocurrency wallet inside a smartphone.
The official press release for Samsung Galaxy S10 reads:
“Galaxy S10 is built with defense-grade Samsung Knox, as well as a secure storage backed by hardware, which houses your private keys for blockchain-enabled mobile services.”
These are the only details that Samsung has revealed about Samsung Knox so far. However, leaked screenshots from the past tell us more about this new feature from Samsung. Let us take a closer look:
Leaked Details about Samsung Knox Cryptocurrency Wallet’
Based on information obtained via leaked screenshots from the past, we know that Samsung’s cryptocurrency wallet will also come with a Samsung Blockchain KeyStore, which will allow the users to securely manage and store their private keys. The idea behind the Samsung Knox cryptocurrency wallet is to provide the users a smartphone which doubles up as a cryptocurrency wallet.
Furthermore, we know that this wallet will only support Ethereum (ETH) initially. However, these details were obtained months before the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy S10. There might also be a possibility that Samsung added support for Bitcoins (and other cryptos) following the official launch. Other Smartphones with Cryptocurrency Wallets
Samsung Galaxy S10 becomes the biggest (and perhaps the most impactful) device to introduce a built-in cryptocurrency wallet. In the past, we have seen smartphones such as HTC’s Exodus 1 which have provided similar features of a built-in wallet. However, the brand name of Samsung provides a much-needed legitimacy to cryptocurrency wallets on smartphones. Other leading flagship smartphones might follow suit soon.
